How to reserve KHS ad space?

Fill out the ad contract with all needed information. Clearly mark ad size.
Keep the white copy of the three-part ad contract for your records and attach check payable to Klein Yearbook to the remaining two parts of contract.
Either mail the contract/payment to KHS or bring to the main campus switchboard.

How to make an ad?

OPTION 1: No appointment needed for ad

If you do not have time or do not need to sit down with an ad staff member for your senior ad, please drop off pictures, a simple sketch of your ad layout and text at the main switchboard in the main building. Please number your pictures and be specific about needs or request for your ad. It would be helpful if you would put a "sticky address label" on the back of each picture and write your student's name.

OPTION 2: Appointment needed for your ad

Once you turn in your contract to KHS (and school has started), call to schedule an appointment with an ad staff member. Please call during the advertising class period (period 6: 12:45-1:30) to arrange a time and date for the student to sit down and work with you. You may also e-mail the adviser, Sheila Alexander, to have an ad staffer contact you (salexander@kleinisd.net).

Recommendations for number of pictures and words for your ad:

One block: 1 picture and 2-3 lines of copy
Two block: 1-3 small pictures and 3-4 lines of copy
Three block: 2-3 pictures and 3-8 lines of copy
Four block: 2-6 pictures and 6-10 line of copy
Six block: 5-8 pictures and 6-12 lines of copy
Nine block: 5-10 pictures and 8-12 lines of copy

Please note the more you add to the space, the smaller the pictures will appear.

Ad Tips:

Do not use photo collages or word borders, as they may appear visually cluttered. Collages work well for scrapbooks, but not for ad designs.
Do not fold or cut your pictures. Please verbally (or sketch) what part of the photo you want to appear in the ad.
Work in advance if you are planning on using the senior portrait (shot in the summer) for you ad. Prestige Photography will have thousands of pictures to shoot and print over the course of a few months and your ad timeline is very important.
Keep your ad design simple and do not cram too many pictures or words.
Keep in mind that it is hard to place a vertical picture in a horizontal space and vice versa.
Clearly print or type your ad message; if you are misspelling a word intentionally please let us know.

VERY IMPORTANT: Our publishing company continues to prefer hard copy pictures at this point. PLEASE do not give us your "precious" and "one of a kind" pictures.

FAQ's:

Will ad space sell out?
It can vary from year to year, but space "typically" sells out in the month of August and/or September. Ads are reserved on a first-come basis only using the postmark date in the summer months.

Can I reserve space and bring in pictures and copy at the same time?
It is best to first reserve your space just in case. Complete the ad contract and mail in the bottom two copies with payment to KHS. Start looking for pictures and working on copy after space has been reserved.

When will my pictures and copy be due for my ad?
The ad contract will have a specific deadline date written at the bottom right; we have also attached a letter to each contract giving the deadline date again so you will clearly know when your materials are due. Please make sure your ad deadline is met as we have a strict timeline we must work with the publishing company. NOTE if ad materials are not submitted and the deadline must ship to Dallas, a "congratulatory" message will be placed in the space for your KHS student.

Will I get my pictures back?
Most pictures are returned AFTER the book delivers in the month of May. If time allows (due to final exams, ect.) the ad staff will hand deliver pictures to students during their class period. That said, it would be VERY helpful if parents wanting pictures returned would submit a self addressed, stamped envelope at the time all ad materials are turned in. Pictures have been lost over the past years, which is why we urge you to never supply us with a "rare" picture.

Can I see my ad after it is complete?
The ad staff cannot mail, email or fax a proof of your ad. If interested, students may call to schedule a time with the designer to check out on the computer. Ad classes meet daily from 12:45-1:30 and can be reached at 832.484.4245.

Thank you for your support of Klein High School Bearkat Yearbook. The funds from advertising sales pay for all department computers, cameras, copy machines, programs as well as graphic treatment for the book. The buyer, in purchasing a KHS ad, realizes the yearbook is planned, created, and produced by students in grades 9-12 who are not professionals, but are in the learning atmosphere only. Errors can and will occur. The buyer guarantees payment for the ad to accompany the signed contract.
