This course provides opportunities for students to acquire intermediate-mid to intermediate-high proficiency in Latin and is for highly qualified students who excel in language study and are interested in accepting the challenges of a more rigorous instructional program to include review and reinforcement of grammatical concepts necessary for obtaining fluency in reading the language with emphasis placed on the works of Cicero and Ovid. The focus of the course is the acceleration of language acquisition and demonstrated intermediate-high proficiency as preparation for Honors courses. This course satisfies the requirement for the third year of study in the same language for the Distinguished graduation plan. |

This advanced course is a continuation of Latin III with emphasis on intermediate-mid to intermediate-high proficiency. The student will have opportunities to understand and discuss situations and activities within a range of interests while using knowledge of grammatical structures that enable the understanding of literary works such as the writings of Virgil, author of The Aeneid. The student will write about readings and will develop an understanding of another people from participation in activities selected for cultural content.

This intermediate-high proficiency level course is for the highly motivated student who excels in the study of Latin. In addition to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills mastered in the regular course, the student is required to analyze, synthesize, and evaluate works written in Latin, including literature, both prose and poetry, with emphasis on Virgil, Horace, and Catullus. Creativity is encouraged through the development of independent projects aimed at allowing the student to pursue topics of individual interest. A project presented in the form of a report, critical analysis, or dramatic interpretation. Attention will be given to problem areas in grammar as needs arise. |

This course offers the student a study of Latin as a spoken and written language and its linguistic influences on modern languages. The student will use Latin to make comparisons between Roman and modern culture and history and between Latin and Greek root words and modern English. |
